Harriet is primarily interested in the human figure, nature and classical portraiture. She uses colourful elements in her artworks to portray how she views the world.
Harriet is heavily inspired by the Pre-Raphaelites; in particular, Edward Burne-Jones, William Morris and Dante Gabriel Rossetti, with their style of dramatising a traditional portrait painting. Their works show abundant detail, intense colours, rich patterns and complex compositions based on Italian art.
She likes to explore a range of techniques and compositions in her work, thereby contributing to her teaching and painting practice. Harriet currently teaches Visual Art and Painting at Napier Girls’ High School, while residing in the beautiful Hawke’s Bay.
